Vasa, the Ship That Never Sailed...

Meeting Vasa will leave you speechless, no matter the age. This great warship was built 333 years ago and hides two fascinating stories: she sank on the day of her first ever voyage in the harbour of Stockholm and then she was rescued an incredible 333 years later. During the tour you will know more about her unbelievable first journey on 10th August 1628 and how the population watched helplessly as the most powerful ship of its time sank only a few metres away from the shore. The guide will also tell you about Anders Franzén, the Swedish shipwreck expert who found her in the 1950s. After more than 300 years waiting on the bottom of the harbour, Vasa saw daylight again in 1961. Today she is exhibited in the museum almost in the same condition in which she sank. The guided tour has been built as a clue hunt during which the children are invited to look at the ship from bottom to top to understand perhaps why Vasa sank. The children will also discover objects found on board and imagine how life could have been on board a warship. After this tour, they will never look at a ship in the same way.

NB : All our tours are designed for families and will interest young and old. Please note that children must however remain under the responsibility of their parents for the duration of the tour. Parents cannot leave their children with the guide and leave the tour.
