Sweden has the highest sweet consumption per capita in the world. Sweeties, toffees or liquorice are a part of their staple diet here and in the 1950s, Saturday became the “Day of the Sweets”. So don’t be surprised on Friday evenings to see families in the supermarkets filling huge paper bags with sweets. It is estimated that each Swede eats 16kg of sweets per year.
